Before the Master is recorded on CD for eternity, there must be a final check of those involved to listen to discrepancies on the CD. Bauke Van Der Laaken from the renowned Studio Spitbergen in Zuidbroek, one of the finest people to collaborate on a project together, has mixed and mastered the CD. And what a great job again. CD sounds like a sun, especially in the jazz tradition of Manhatten Transfer and New York Voices, the inspirational sources of Treats. A real treat to listen to.

I’m thrilled to listen to this CD because I know how much free time it contains. Hence the title: “Wasting Time”. What a wonderful project. First of all the group composition. Four absolute top singers rehearse weekly, year after year to master the sound. And with top singers I do not mean singers who have won the Voice, but singers who can sing very complex harmonic compositions without autotune. That has nothing to do with singing a song on TV. Everyone can do that.

3 years ago started with the recordings in Studio Wijnbergen in Franeker. What a nice place too, where you can record jazz music with an engineer who knows how jazz music should sound. In the studio is a grand piano. Hans Wijnbergen can give you the feeling that you are really making something special. And that’s nice. Had a wonderful weekend there with Treats, while we recorded the rhythm section there. Imre was not a father yet, Tony was still in the diapers and I still looked good. So long ago.

Then piece in pieces at multiple locations everything, song for song, sometimes measure for measure. Sax hero Steven Sluiter in Steem studio, and he bring his friends Pasha Shcherbakov and Libbe Oosterman. After that to complete everything, Raphael Tahapary played beautiful percussion, also in Studio Steem.

What a great accomplishment Nynke, Jeroen, Anne-Lie and Jasper. And it was worth it !!! To make a CD once in a while with international allure you have to put everything aside and just go for it. And that exactly moves me, that passion, that drive. Very recognizable, and what incredibly beautiful.

I have not discovered any unevenness on this beautiful CD, which you should have in your collection. Are you a choir singer? Do you enjoy swinging jazz music? Original compositions?
